Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe
INTRODUCTION
WASH is an acronym that stands for “water, sanitation and hygiene“. Universal, affordable and sustainable access to WASH is a key public health issue within international development and is the focus of the first two targets of Sustainable Development Goal 6.
The Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe continues to work to improve access to water in rural and peri-urban communities. In Murewa, Mutoko and Epworth, EFZ has drilled new boreholes and rehabilitated non-functional boreholes for the benefit of communities.
Our work has enabled thousands of families to access water, gain knowledge on hygiene and in the process to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ on which the values of Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe are predicated. To date over 160,000 people have directly benefitted from WASH interventions across Zimbabwe.
Thousands of beneficiaries from 133 primary and secondary schools; 9 clinics and hospitals; 28 growth points; 11 local churches and 266 villages have again profited directly from EFZ services through drilling of 73 boreholes and rehabilitation of 374 boreholes and water sources. Further, 24,000 people have been empowered directly from sanitation & hygiene promotions while over 2 million people have been reached with COVID-19 prevention messages.
Through EFZ’s integral mission approach, WASH interventions are used as an entry point to evangelise and bring new souls to Jesus. Consequently, over 60,000 people have been reached with the gospel of Jesus Christ while a total of 6 new assemblies have been established in Mutoko and Murewa. Over 240,000 gospel literature has been distributed to various communities namely prisons, schools, and health care centres. EFZ’s WASH interventions are in line with its vision, mission, and values of alliancing to evangelise, empower and being Christo-centric in approach.
