Milestones

Flagship Projects
Since 2021, the Gender Development Commission (GDC) has been integrating livelihood management programs into its gender projects. This initiative addresses poverty, a key cause of gender-based violence (GBV) in many Zimbabwean communities. The program, located in the Irisvale community of Umzingwane district, has been effective in using resources like land and capital to support income-generating projects.
The initiative has economically impacted 180 women and girls, improving their economic status and influencing behavioral and lifestyle changes at both the individual and household levels. The program also helps achieve Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Starting with a broiler keeping and management project for 50 young women and girls, the initiative has grown to include Self-Help Group initiatives, expanding its reach to 180 beneficiaries. The program has empowered these women and girls, with 180 households—totaling 540 community members—benefiting from improved livelihoods.
